The best works by painters – portraits – were created in the course of centuries, until the end of the 19th century when photography made its appearance. Then many believed that the bell had already tolled for painting, because no paintbrush could transfer an image as perfectly as a photograph.

However, painting and photography are wholly autonomous arts, each of them serving a different purpose. And today a man lives in Prague who has managed to merge these two arts.

Jadran Šetlík is the most significant photographer in the field of artistic portraiture. His portraits of distinctive personalities, entrepreneurs, as well as family and children’s portraits are famous. With his characteristic concept amplified by the original technology of transferring the photograph on to canvas, he creates photographic images evoking the feeling of a canvas painted by the Old Masters.
“This is a pleasant luxury which decorates quite a few stylish, historical and modern interiors, completing and enhancing the atmosphere. It is only a large photograph which enables us to have our dear ones always close to us in the form of a portrait,” says Jadran Šetlík.
