Who discovered your acting talent? Possibly the admission committee at DAMU. Excellent Boris Rösner was then choosing the year and, out of approximately 450, only 11 were admitted. Well, I was lucky – I was among those. And due to the fact that I was not expelled from school, perhaps we can say that my teachers had a more constant feeling about some of my “talent”.
What criteria do you use when choosing a role? It should not be absolutely stupid, the role, or in a stupid play. This already smells of failure. No, seriously – it depends on “what, why, where?” and very much also on “with whom?”.
Do you have any dream role? No, I do not. I have played Cyrano and I have played Mercutio. I am very lucky with roles. I would accept Onegin or Raskolnikov. Those are beautiful roles. But if I don’t get them, I’ll really still survive!
Are you a workaholic? No, I am not and never will be. And I feel truly sorry for people who are.
You meet very interesting people in your field. Do you have any friends among them? I do. And also even close friends. Because people who work in the theater are often the best people you could ever meet.
What are your current projects? I will not stupefy you with my business. Some people like to do this and sometimes it is rubbish. The most important thing to me is the success of the premiere of Dostoyevsky in the Theater in Celetná. We are performing it with only two actors, which is challenging and I hope it will be exciting for the audience. The experience of getting to know a unique writer and the experience of a good performance. Hopefully.
Why did you decide on Dostoyevsky? It will be the second performance of this author in the theater Divadlo v Celetné. We have already staged Demons there, directed by Alexander Vasilyevich Minayev. The performance of Tender is the Night completes the two short performances in one evening. The production consists of a fragment from Crime and Punishment, with Tender in the second half. And we decided on Dostoyevsky because… well, do you know many such writers?
