Kylie comes back with a spectacular showLoads of big hits, and a feast for the eyes – 30 fountains gushing up to a height of 30 metres in the air! This, in one sentence, is the new show on her current tour by Australian native, Kylie Minogue, to be staged in Prague on the 2nd March at the O2 arena. The team around the tiny, attractive singer and actress will construct a gigantic heart-shaped stage in the multifunction hall, complete with seven lifts and the above-mentioned fountains. A unique new speciality will also be the imaginative system which allows performers to float across the arena above the heads of the audience. “Everything was here already, however, no artist has yet come to the Czech Republic with a show quite like this. Never have fountains spouted water up to the height of an eight-storey building from the stage, right among the audience!” says a representative from Bestsport organising agency. That’s why the audience in the front rows surrounding the giant heart will even be provided with special capes, apparently because the water spray will reach up to their seats… Kylie Minogue, labelled in her time by the British tabloid media as the owner of the “most beautiful female bottom” comes from Melbourne and on the 28th May this year will celebrate her 43rd birthday. Her career dates back to when, as a twelve-year-old, she began to act in TV productions. In reality, it was her role in 1986 as Charlene in the extremely popular Australian television soap opera, “Neighbours”, which catapulted her into international fame, and not only as an actress. It was also due to this role that she landed a recording contract with Mushroom Records in 1987. Her success as a singer was instant – her musical debut was a cover version of the long-running 1962 hit, “The Loco-Motion”, originally a recording by black American singer, Little Eva, discovered for the music world by the husband-and-wife “musical” team of Carole King and Gerry Goffin, who also composed this song for their children’s babysitter. After the Australian breakthrough in August 1988, Kylie Minogue’s recording occupied 3rd position on the All-American Billboard Hot 100 and 2nd position in the British Top 20 Singles Chart. By then, this lovely actress, just starting out in her career as a singer (with co-star, Jason Donovan) was already in the stable and under contract of the renowned British songwriting and record-producing trio of Stock, Aitken & Waterman. Her flawless, tested and fully functioning singing voice could thus reach great heights. And her career started soaring! January 1988 – “I Should Be So Lucky”, Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. May 1988 – “Got to Be Certain”, No. 2. October 1988 – “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi” – No. 2. December 1988 – “Especially for You”, a duet with Jason Donovan, No. 1. May 1989 – “Hand on Your Heart”, No. 1. August 1989 – “Wouldn’t Change a Thing”, No. 2. … And we could go on in this way. Today Kylie Minogue has behind her more than four decades of Hit Parade singles, including a surprising duet, “Where the Wild Roses Grow”, with alternative rocker Nick Cave (1995) and the megahit, “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” (2001, single on the Fever album), which brought Kylie closer to a new generation of listeners. During her 2004 concert tour, Ultimate Kylie, in which she presented a cross-section of her greatest hits (which presented the problem of which to include and which to omit), she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Immediately she underwent radical surgery and long-term chemotherapy, which temporarily ended her concert life. After fully recovering and finally getting the “green light” from her doctors, she again rushed back into her work. She presented the global concert programme, Showgirl, and released her 10th studio album, X (2007). In May 2008, we could also see her for the first time in our country. In the same year, she was awarded the O.B.E. in Britain by Queen Elizabeth II for her musical accomplishments. Honoured in the same manner before her, have been stars such as Cliff Richard, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Elton John and Mick Jagger. So, after less than two years, Kylie Minogue is returning to our country. She will also feature several songs from the past and from her discography of her 11th album, Aphrodite. Her performance should not be missed by all those who enjoy mainstream Pop music on an international level, and Pop which at the same time reflects current trends. This is what Kylie Minogue is all about!
