George Michael Without Prejudice
Besides the stage, he had another dream – flying. But eyesight problems prevented him from becoming a pilot or navigator of longdistance flights. However, this did not prevent him from devoting himself to music. For eight years young Michael learnt to play the violin in one of London’s private music schools.
And who knows what destiny would have brought to Michael if he, in 1975 at the age of 12, had not met Andrew Ridgeley. This new classmate helped Michael to develop his taste and style, change his way of behavior and conversation, and instil in him to a certain extent the adventurous nature which Michael soon utilized when, instead of attending school, he busked in the Tube…
In 1981 Michael and Andrew founded The Executives, a band which unfortunately did not achieve much success. Then the friends decided to form a duo. This was called Wham!
Until 1986 the duo Wham! often occupied the top spot in international charts, especially when the musicians started to use many different styles in their own compositions.
George Michael by then had already gradually transferred to a solo career and after Wham! disbanded, he followed the independent path of a successful musician, singer and composer.
There were many ups and downs, as well as hopes and disappointments on this road. But Michael’s creations went straight to the heart.
“I began to devote myself to Art and Music, later also to production and charitable activities due to a passion evolved from an inner need,” the singer says.
What forces Michael to live and work as if he were piloting an aircraft performing incredible aerobatics? Could it be his childhood dreams of flying? Or, as Michael himself says: “Not everything is as rational as it seems?”
Today George Michael is a real music icon – an ambitious, talented and controversial personality. The phenomenon of the singer astonishes fans and journalists worldwide.
The title of one of his albums is “Listen without Prejudice”. Exactly. If you look without prejudice at everything he does, you will hear not only his music but also the sound of his heartbeat.
